perk up your senses

I love candles!  I've started burning one in my office.  Floral and clean scents seem to perk me up and I feel more energised.

Today...Yankee candle's "English Garden"
Lovely!

weight or wait?

This is a personal post and one that I hope will motive and inspire.

I recently completed two new "how to - decorating" videos.  I love the way they turned out and had a great time creating and filing them with my Marketing Team!

The first thing that hit me while reviewing the videos for the first time was..."wow, the camera does add 10 pounds!"  All kidding aside, I was not happy with the way I looked.

I've struggled with my weight since I was a young girl.  I recall comments like "she has such a pretty face"...that's adult code for "she's a cute chubby girl"

As I was walking Tuesday morning this came to me...

"Don't let weight make you wait"

My weight doesn't define me, or make me a lesser person!
My weight is nothing to be ashamed of, but it's not an excuse either.

My weight will wait no longer.  I have decided to eat a little better (and a little less), move deliberately each day, and make my health and fitness a priority!!

m.style out and about 2/22/2013

You just never know where you'll find m.style!

This weeks sighting comes from Scott Shafranek.  While looking for homes in his area of Charlotte NC, he spotted the Full Bloom pattern in this video for "2023 Bay Street in Chantilly".

Thanks for your great eye Scott!!!

my living room, or the home for wayward home furnishings

Okay, so what do you get when you love furniture/decorative accessories and have worked for some of the best sample sale companies on earth (Williams-Sonoma and Bed Bath & Beyond),.

You have STUFF.  Really great stuff, but stuff none the less.

The beautiful leather sofa and love seat we found on Craig's List got a face lift and went up to  the cabin (pics to follow soon).  Leaving behind the over scale coffee table and the more than slightly blemished side tables that came with the set.  The furniture from the family room (aka basement) came up so we had a place to sit.  Then add in the baskets for boys toys, an old and ever so comfy chair, my prized Chinese Rosewood secretary desk, my husband’s grandfathers writing desk..and I’m out of room and frankly, it's not the look I was going for.  Then there's the 1990's Tuscan gold paint and half complete bead board celling (started shortly after Noah was born (he's 4 now).

So, I broke down this week and asked for help!

Some months ago I was looking though Rockland Magazine and saw this info/commercial for a local interior designer, but with a twist. She is a Decorator for a day.  No long commitment and potentially hefty bills to get the help I really need.  I want the room to look and feel like me and the “boys”.  What I need is a fresh pair of eyes for my little and very awkward living room.

I’ll let you know how the consultation goes next week.

working your way around the room, this is the front door and front of the house
good shot of my prized desk...maybe a little too big for the space?

This is the main living space and where we watch TV.

Bacon (need I say more)

In my 47 years on this earth, I have yet to find a single food that can rival it.
So indisputably delicious.
It should be its own food group and we should need to eat it daily!

2 weeks ago up at the cabin I prepared my traditional weekend breakfast of bacon & eggs.  I fried up a full pound of Oscars thick sliced bacon for the family.

At the conclusion of breakfast, the boys asked if there was any left.  My reply, sadly, was no.  They went on the explain that they just needed one more small piece to make their "tummies happy".

I swear, it’s like a drug, you always want just one more piece.  Oscar’s Smoke House in Warrensburg NY. (www.oscarsadksmokehouse.com) may have the best bacon I’ve had the pleasure of frying up.

I’ve been trying to eat healthier (who isn’t??), and to make my 3 egg white omelet taste a little more like real food, I sprinkle in generous pinch of Hormel Real Crumbled Bacon. At only 25 calories per tablespoon, it’s a LOT of flavor, for not a lot of calories (or points if you’re in to that).

I also add it to a host of other dishes like soups, stews, and pasta sauces to add a burst of salty smokey flavor.
